History of Kirkland
Kirkland is named for Peter Kirk, an English steel businessman who planned an industrial city here in the 1880s. The steel mill never opened, and the town grew instead around shipbuilding and ferries. It incorporated in 1905 and annexed Finn Hill, Kingsgate, and North Juanita in 2011.
